Virginia DCJS Security Officer Practice Exam - Comprehensive Practice Test & Study Guide

When a security officer witnesses a violation of company policy, documenting the incident and reporting it to a supervisor is the appropriate course of action. This ensures that there is an accurate record of the violation, which can be important for subsequent investigations or reviews. Documentation provides factual evidence of the incident, including the time, date, and nature of the violation, which can be crucial for understanding the context and for any necessary disciplinary measures.

Reporting to a supervisor ensures that the chain of command is followed and that the appropriate actions can be taken by those in authority. This approach maintains the integrity of the security process and allows for proper management of policy violations, helping to uphold the standards and regulations set forth by the organization.

Taking personal action without documentation or waiting for other officers to get involved may lead to uncoordinated responses that could exacerbate the situation or lead to misunderstandings. Ignoring the violation, especially if it’s significant, could undermine the enforcement of company policies and compromise the safety or integrity of the organization.
